Welcome to Our High Point the Newsletter for Westhills Parish Church!

Staying Warm

In truth the project began years ago when we realised that we were having problems with leaky radiators in the church.  Then came issues with the gas boilers becoming unreliable (one still is!) and we became aware that the church heating system was showing signs of ageing.  It has taken some length of time to arrive at a point where a heating survey have been completed, the scope of works to be carried out agreed and prices from contractors submitted.  When the Trustees met on Monday 9th March we agreed to accept a quote for the works to be done, to submit an application to Presbytery and agree to seek grant funding as well.  Fingers crossed that our application, once submitted, is processed quickly so we can agree a start date for works.  We are looking at £40,000 of works to be carried out replacing all radiators, installing new commercial boilers, installing a hot water system and lockable thermostats on radiators within the halls.

Stained Glass

We mentioned in intimations but it won’t be widely known as yet, that progress is being made to remove the stained glass panel from the rear of the chancel in the former Greenhills Church (Westhills Community Hub) for it to be relocated in Westhillls Church within the Hall of Fellowship.  The exact location will entail the removal of the wooden collage entitled “The Old In the New”.  We have explored avenues for re-homing the collage but at time of writing we have drawn a blank.  We’ve tried other East Kilbride churches depicted in the collage and are now exploring Duncanrig School.  If you know of other possibilities for re-homing please get in touch.  We are trying to avoid it  being disposed of.

At time of writing the stained glass panel has already been mounted in Westhills church and the back lighting is working well.  We’ll need to do some decorating to tidy up the wall but otherwise a good and very pleasing addition to the Hall of Fellowship.

Trustees

While the Trustee Body (Kirk Session) have overall responsibility and oversight for the administration of Westhills Church as a charity we also ask some trustees to oversee particular areas of church life.  To date we have asked Mark Wiliams to exercise oversight in Property matters.  Mark will liaise with Property Conveners, help build a Property Team and help ensure that our obligations in maintaining and reporting on property matters are fulfilled. Thank you Mark!

We have asked Maureen Thomson to have oversight of Food Standards.  Maureen has long been involved in the catering side of church life but will now help us move forward ensuring, amongst other things, that our Food Hygiene Training is up date and that our Food Standards Policy is brought up to date too.  Thank you Maureen!

We know that both Mark and Maureen have taken on critical areas of church life.

Thank you for taking the time to read through this edition of “Our High Point”.  By and large the information within this newsletter has stemmed from the most recent meeting of the Trustees.  We do hope that in time there will be a wider contribution.
